Food donations for the Balingen food bank 2023

Current status of our regional trainee social project

Demand at food banks is higher than ever. The SÜLZLE Group’s regional social project for trainees is therefore supporting the food bank in Balingen. And not just once, but for 15 months in 2023/2024, with a total value of 15,000 euros. Food donations worth 12,000 euros have already been delivered.

Under the motto ‘Filling plates together’, the first food donation was delivered to the food bank on 24 February 2023. On 28 February 2023, the food bank team was actively supported by our trainees for the first time in selling food on site.

Between February and December 2023, our trainees were on site on a total of 12 occasions to actively support the local team. Among other things, they worked hard to help with the distribution of baked goods: whether packing bread, croissants and rolls, calculating prices or distributing them to people in need – our trainees were fully committed. It was a great experience to gain a different perspective and support people in need at the same time.

In the meantime, a total of 12 food donations had reached the food bank, helping many people in need.

About the food bank

The food bank is a non-profit organisation dedicated to collecting surplus food and selling it to people in need at a low price. The Balingen food bank is run by the Protestant parish of Balingen, which cooperates with the Catholic Church of the Holy Spirit and the support association. With its team of volunteers, it strives to balance surplus and shortage. They collect food that is still in perfect condition but would otherwise end up in the rubbish, and distribute it to socially and economically disadvantaged people for a symbolic amount.

The food bank has to be financed exclusively from donations. For the volunteers at the food bank, it is a constant challenge to distribute the dwindling donations from commercial and private donors to an ever-increasing number of people in need.
