Balingen
Regional social project for trainees at the SÜLZLE Group
First food donation for the Balingen food bank
Demand at food banks is currently higher than ever. The SÜLZLE Group’s regional social project for trainees is therefore supporting the food bank in Balingen with purchases. And not just once, but for 15 months in 2023/2024, with a total value of 15,000 euros.
Under the motto ‘Filling plates together’, the first food donation was delivered to the food bank on 24 February 2023. On 28 February, the food bank team was then actively supported by our trainees in selling the food on site. The regional trainee project clearly shows what a single initiative can achieve and is a great opportunity for SÜLZLE’s junior staff to grow together as a team and get involved in social projects.
The Balinger Tafel is sponsored by the Evangelical Church Community of Balingen, which cooperates with the Catholic Church of the Holy Spirit and the support association. The food bank and its team of volunteers strive to balance abundance and scarcity. They collect food that is still in perfect condition but would otherwise end up in the bin, and distribute it to socially and economically disadvantaged people for a symbolic amount.
The number of people eligible to purchase discounted food has nearly doubled this year to over 1,000 at the Balinger Tafel food bank, compared to last year. As a result, the Balinger Tafel food bank is currently operating at full capacity. The food bank is financed exclusively by donations. For the volunteers at the food bank, it is a constant challenge to distribute the dwindling donations from commercial and private donors to an ever-increasing number of people in need.
