SÜLZLE is a new member of the DGNB

Working together for sustainable construction

23.09.2025

Since June 2025, the SÜLZLE Group has been a member of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB), the largest network of its kind in Europe. This is another important milestone for our group of companies on the path to implementing our sustainability strategy and complements our existing partnerships with Solid Unit, Responsible Steel and the Alliance for Development and Climate.

„As part of the DGNB, we want to play an active role in shaping the transformation of the construction industry. The DGNB network offers the opportunity to work with other stakeholders to shape the future of sustainable construction with reinforced concrete.“

Heinrich Sülzle, Managing Partner of the SÜLZLE Group

Sustainability and climate protection are central components of SÜLZLE’s corporate philosophy, and reducing the company’s own emissions is firmly anchored in its corporate strategy. With STOOX, the sustainable reinforcing steel with a clearly documented carbon footprint, SÜLZLE Stahlpartner is already demonstrating how the environmental impact of reinforced concrete projects can be reduced. Digital production technologies and a TÜV-validated method for calculating the product carbon footprint (PCF) enable the targeted use of raw materials with reduced greenhouse gas potential. This means that CO₂ reduction potentials identified in structural design can be implemented on the construction site and documented seamlessly.

A current practical example is the major U5 project of Hamburger Hochbahn AG: for the first time, the level of CO₂ emissions is serving as a key evaluation criterion in construction. SÜLZLE Stahlpartner from Seelze is supplying the project with reinforcing steel that has an average of less than 400 kg CO₂e per tonne, which is significantly below the industry average.

With its DGNB membership, SÜLZLE Stahlpartner is underlining its role as a pioneer in sustainable steel products and an innovative partner for the construction industry.

DGNB: The largest network for sustainable construction in Europe

Since 2007, the DGNB has been working as a non-profit association to promote construction methods that take equal account of ecological, economic and socio-cultural aspects. In addition to certifications for buildings and neighbourhoods, the organisation operates the DGNB Navigator, a central online portal that provides detailed sustainability information on building products. Today, the DGNB has over 2,700 member organisations, making it the largest network for sustainable building in Europe.
