SÜLZLE Stahlpartner supplies “green steel”

First CO2-neutral reinforcing steel distributor in Germany

SÜLZLE takes its commitment to sustainable business seriously and has therefore taken a close look at its carbon footprint. Climate-relevant emissions were analyzed, reduced and compensated. Since 2020, SÜLZLE Stahlpartner has been a climate-neutral company. As the first rebar distributor in Germany, SÜLZLE now also offers its customers the possibility to purchase “green steel”. This is a milestone in the reinforcing steel industry, because sustainable building materials are more in demand than ever.

For the modern extension buildings of Blickle, a wheel and castor specialist based in Rosenfeld, SÜLZLE Stahlpartner is supplying around 4,000 tons of CO2-neutral structural steel for the first time. “Sustainable construction is the future. CO2-neutral steel is an important component – also because steel can generally be recycled again and again,” emphasize Heinrich and Andreas Sülzle, managing partners of the SÜLZLE Group. SÜLZLE Stahlpartner is thus a pioneer in the reinforcing steel industry and already enables building owners to choose steel with a neutral eco-balance.

Voluntary CO2 compensation through climate protection projects

To offset previously unavoidable CO2 emissions from steel, customers can purchase high-quality climate protection certificates and have their support for global projects and the associated climate neutrality of the purchased steel certified by a certificate when they buy “green steel”. The basis for this is the previously determined CO2 product footprint. Global compensation projects include, for example, a hydropower project in Uganda, a water treatment project in Zimbabwe, and a photovoltaic project in India. SÜLZLE is not only thinking regionally, but globally, in order to support the future of renewable energies and sustainable growth in emerging and developing countries.

Sustainability over four generations

“Sustainability has long been an important topic in our family. We will therefore reduce the CO2 footprint of the entire group of companies step by step. What cannot be reduced will be compensated. Our ambition is to take responsibility to support the 17 Sustainable Development Goals to achieve the UN’s Agenda 2030,” emphasize the SÜLZLE shareholders, who are the fourth generation to run the company. Since March 2020, the SÜLZLE Group has therefore been an active supporter of the Alliance for Development and Climate.

Focus on the future

The shareholders of the SÜLZLE Group and Blickle Räder+Rollen GmbH & Co. KG are not only connected by family tradition and entrepreneurial thinking and acting over generations. The careful use of resources is also close to the hearts of both entrepreneurs. At the official press event on October 12 at Blickle’s construction site, the first delivery of CO2-neutral reinforcing steel was now presented to the public. “The construction project at the market leader for wheels and castors in our home town shows how modern industrial construction can be implemented sustainably with “green steel”. A lofty goal for the future that we can only achieve together with our customers, employees, suppliers and partners,” said Heinrich Sülzle. “We congratulate Blickle on the extension buildings and look forward to further sustainable construction projects,” adds Andreas Sülzle.

Blickle creates capacities

The wheel and castor specialist from Rosenfeld continues to grow and builds a new polyurethane production facility at its headquarters. In addition, the administration building will be expanded with a modern customer center and an employee canteen – one of the largest investments in the company’s history. Ground was broken for the new production building in March 2020 and the second for the seven-story administration building in September of this year. In its new buildings, Blickle attaches great importance to climate neutrality, and not only for reinforcing steel. Highly efficient technology and an intelligent building envelope keep heating and cooling requirements very low. “With the expansion buildings, we continue to focus on the Rosenfeld location and create capacities for the future,” says David Blickle, member of the management of Blickle Räder+Rollen GmbH u. Co. KG.
